Barney Beagle has come to PAW under sad circumstances.
At the age of three years, Barney was abandoned at the shelter by a family that did not want him any more because he dug up the flowerbeds in their backyard.
Fortunately, at the same time, an 85 year old man came to the shelter searching for a canine companion and so Barney was adopted. He and Barney enjoyed each others company, and Barney enjoyed an extra helping of loving attention, (and dog treats) for the last four years.
Sadly, the elderly gentleman recently passed away and Barney is homeless and sad and confused about the loss of his best friend.
Now in foster care for two weeks, Barney has begun to adjust to his new surroundings with other beagles and people to help him start a new life. He likes the outdoors (and has not dug any holes), and especially enjoys walking on leash in the neighborhood. Seldom can one hear his beagle bay, and he is a gentleman in the house being quiet and keeping things clean. He likes car rides and rode to his first adoption show where he met children and adults and other dogs. The children were gently petting him and he responded by wagging his tail.
Over time, he has gained weight and for his New Years Resolution, Barney wants to find a special person or family that will help him slim down and live long to enjoy a happy, healthy life. In return, Barney offers a sweet disposition and love and companionship for a lucky adopter.
