Sponsor Duchess!
Duchess, a lovely Sheltie, was originally purchased for breeding. But her
owners changed their mind and left her at a shelter when she was about a year
old - and evident that she was blind. The shelter staff were so impressed
with her loving nature and determination that they called PAW. Soon after
getting her, we discovered that Duchess was also deaf. Her condition is
congenital and irreversible. Like Helen Keller, Duchess may view the world
differently, but is full of spirit and not at all depressed by her condition.
Lately Duchess has begun having mini-seizures, which the vet also attributes
to her breeding. Duchess needs special accommodations, so she is unlikely
to ever leave her foster home, where she is loved very much. In addition to
her annual check up and heartworm control, she takes daily medication. Her
health care costs run about $65 a month.
