Harpo was rescued the first time at the age of 6 weeks when his breeder was about to put him down just because he was deaf. The wonderful man who took Harpo in as a puppy already had a hearing Dalmatian, 2-year-old Max, who quickly bonded with little brother Harpo. After 8 happy years together, Max died of congestive heart failure and Harpo was alone all day for the first time ever. PAW entered the picture when Harpo wanted a housemate. Harpo's owner decided to look for another deaf Dalmatian "that will be as loving and wonderful as Harpo." Harpo and his owner fell head over heels in love with PAW's beautiful deaf Dalmatian, Olivia, and took her into their hearts and home.

Unfortunately, just months after adopting Olivia, Harpo's owner was diagnosed with cancer. At his request, Olivia's former foster mom took in both Olivia and Harpo to care for them while he fought a losing battle and subsequently passed away. For the second time Harpo had lost the most important thing in his life.

This dear boy is now 10 years old and has a number of "old doggie" problems. In addition to being deaf, he has a heart murmur, arthritis, and bad hips. Harpo is currently on Glucosamine Chondroitin, MSM, and aspirin, which is keeping him comfortable; his vet care costs about $40 a month. He's also a bit overweight, so his foster is working on getting his weight down, which will help with his medical conditions.

Though it's hard to see in the picture, Harpo's left eye is brown and his right eye is blue, giving him a rather mysterious look. He loves to "nuzzle", and his favorite spot to take a nap is under the computer desk with his head on his foster mom's foot and with his sister Olivia nestled in next to him.
